UC Irvine is committed to producing California’s next generation of highly qualified mathematics and science teachers through the UCI Cal Teach program. This unique program recruits and prepares talented undergraduates for a teaching career. Students may choose one of these options:

Option 1:  4-Year Program

Through this program, students earn both their bachelor’s degree and a California Preliminary Single Subject Teaching Credential in four years.  Individuals who hold this credential are authorized to teach science (chemistry, geosciences, or physics) or math in a middle school or high school.

Option 2: 4+1 Program

Students interested in earning a teaching credential after completing their bachelor’s degree, through a post-baccalaureate program, can get an early start by taking the Cal Teach ‘Introduction to Science and Mathematics Teaching’ course (Physical Sciences 5/Biological Sciences 14).

The Cal Teach program is jointly sponsored by the School of Biological Sciences, School of Physical Sciences, and the Department of Education. For more information visit: http://www.education.uci.edu/calteach/.
