Professor Tait is particle physicist, specializing in theoretical physics, elementary particles and theories of dark matter. He is responsible for the proposal that dark matter may be ordinary matter confined to hidden dimensions.

In 2013, he was elected a fellow of the American Physical Society, an honor signifying recognition by one's professional peers. Tait earned this fellowship for his contributions to the phenomenology of theories of dark matter. His work on the possible discovery of a fifth force of nature has been featured widely in the media, including an interview on National Public Radio's Take Two

Tait studies particle physics and cosmology, with an eye on the possible existence of a so-called "fifth force," which, if found, could turn the whole field of physics on its head.
