Professor Barth  is  a  professor  in  the  Department  of  Physics  &  Astronomy  at  UCI.  He  is  an  observational  astronomer who carries out research on supermassive black holes, quasars and active galactic nuclei (AGN).  His research uses observations from UC facilities including the Keck Observatory and Lick Observatory, and  from national and international facilities including Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network, the  Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array, and the Hubble Space Telescope. He earned his Ph.D. at UC Berkeley in 1998, and then held postdoctoral fellowships at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and at Caltech before joining the UCI faculty in 2004.
