Inclusive Excellence
The School of Physical Sciences is committed to advancing opportunities for all students, staff and faculty through various programs like student mentoring, community-building, and wellness coaching.
UCI Wellness Ambassador
UCI Wellness Ambassadors are volunteers at all UCI and UCI Health locations (including virtual) that help create a culture of whole-person wellness within the workplace by promoting awareness and co-worker participation in Wellness programs, services, and events.
Professor Aomawa Shields, Ph. D, Physics & Astronomy is the School of Physical Sciences 2024 UCI Wellness Ambassador. She plans to host a 10-week workshop in the fall for faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate students in the School of Physical Sciences for an exploration of the practice of yoga nidra - a sleep-based guided meditation carried out lying down. For more information email shields@uci.edu.
What Matters to Me and Why
A special three-part series titled "What Matters to Me and Why - SoPS Student Edition," inspired by UCI's long-standing lunchtime series. This new initiative aims to bring the student voice to the forefront, allowing you to share your personal stories and journeys with the larger UCI community in an engaging, in-person format.
Mental Health Workshop Series
The objective of the School of Physical Sciences mental health workshop series is to create an open dialogue across the school focused on mental health awareness. Our hope is that by engaging in critical conversations about different mental health topics guided by licensed professionals, then we may encourage our school community to prioritize their well being and ultimately work together to create a more mindful environment for our students and faculty.
