Maxx Arguilla Wins 2026 ACS National Fresenius Award

Assistant Professor Maxx Arguilla of the UC Irvine Department of Chemistry has been awarded the 2026 American Chemical Society (ACS) National Fresenius Award, sponsored by Phi Lambda Upsilon. This prestigious award recognizes young scientists who have achieved significant national recognition for their research and teaching. Established in 1965, the award honors Carl Remigius Fresenius, a pioneering chemist and one of the namesakes of Phi Lambda Upsilon. The organization’s mission is to promote scholarship and original research in pure and applied chemistry. Professor Arguilla’s research focuses on developing a new class of materials, including so-called one-dimensional and quasi-one-dimensional van der Waals solids. These fiber-like inorganic structures represent some of the thinnest and most stable solid-state materials known today.
