Event Details

Join us for a special morning lecture celebrating the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, hosted by the UC Irvine School of Physical Sciences. This public event will explore the transformative potential of quantum science—from the mysteries of quantum materials to the future of computing and communication.

Distinguished Professor Kieron Burke will open the program with an accessible introduction to quantum science, followed by a featured talk from Assistant Professor Judit Romhanyi, who will share insights from her cutting-edge research in quantum materials.

Whether you're a curious community member, a student, a faculty member, or an alum, this event is designed to spark curiosity and conversation around one of the most exciting frontiers in science.

Come for the science, stay for the breakfast—and leave inspired by the future of quantum science.

About the Speaker

Dr. Romhanyi studies materials in which the strong interactions lead to fascinating emergent quantum phenomena. She seeks to understand and characterize quantum materials by developing microscopic models describing them. Dr. Romhanyi works on experimentally motivated problems, focusing on compounds where the interplay of charge, spin, orbital, and lattice degrees of freedom is vital, leading to exotic physical properties of quantum origins. Exploring these systems is not only exciting but also has potentials in technological applications. Her research interests include frustrated magnetism, spin-orbital physics, multiferroic materials, and topological phases of matter.
