Board on International Scientific Organizations 2023 Global Women’s Breakfast
The U.S. National Committee (USNC) for the International Union for Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) is joined by the USNCs for the International Unions for Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP), Crystallography (IUCr), and Psychological Science (IUPsyS) in hosting a 2023 Global Women’s Breakfast on February 14, 2023 as part of the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development. Scientists interested in the issue of breaking barriers for women and building toward sustainability are invited to participate in this interdisciplinary event featuring a panel discussion on sustainability and inclusivity with a breakout session where attendees can discuss the intersectional opportunities and challenges within these topics. The panel features four scientists from the USNC: Dr. Danniebelle Haas from Dow (IUPAC), Dr. Jennifer Lansford from Duke (IUPsyS), Dr. Kristin Bennett from KB Science (IUCr), and Dr. Vivian U from UCI (IUPAP).
The UCI School of Physical Science is hosting a local in-person event where we will stream the virtual portion of the agenda, including the panel discussion on sustainability and inclusivity that features Dr. U from the Department of Physics and Astronomy. We will facilitate a local breakout discussion among our multidisciplinary group to discuss issues and strategize solutions relevant to our campus. All members of SoPS across career stages and backgrounds are welcome to join. Light refreshments will be provided. Please direct questions to Prof. Mu-Chun Chen, Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
