Change of Major (Congratulations)-FOR ENSP/ESS DOUBLE MAJORS
Dear
Congratulations. Your double major request has been approved by the School of Physical Sciences.
While this major is jointly offered by the School of Physical Sciences and the School of Social Ecology, all administrative and advising functions for the students will be administered by the School of Physical Sciences Student Affairs Office, with the exception of Field Study placement/advising which will be administered by the School of Social Ecology Student Affairs Office. Because you are a double-major, the School of Physical Sciences wants to make sure that you are in compliance with the overlap rules for the Environmental Science and Policy major (http://catalogue.uci.edu/interdisciplinarystudies/environmentalsciencean...).
Note the following policy: Courses being applied to another major cannot also be counted as upper-division electives for the B.A. in Environmental Science and Policy.
DegreeWorks will pull all of the upper-division courses that overlap, and count them for the degree requirements for both majors. This presents an issue when you review your remaining degree requirements. Physical Sciences Student Affairs Office will have to adjust your DegreeWorks for the ENSP major manually, and arrange courses according to your preference. You need to let us know what to put, and where, in order to properly certify your degree. DegreeWorks is simply meant to be a guide, and is not the final say on certification. It is very important that you track these requirements as you get closer to graduation, as no exceptions can be made to this policy.
(NOTE: Since you are a double major with ESS, the ESS Department will only the following upper div courses to overlap: ESS 116 and ESS 192. https://www.ess.uci.edu/ensp-faq)
If you have any questions about your major or courses, please stop into our office in 134 Rowland Hall and meet with an Academic Counselor or Peer Academic Advisor. You can also contact us with questions by emailing us at pssazot@uci.edu.

Dear new Physical Sciences students,
On behalf of the faculty and staff in the School of Physical Sciences, I would like to congratulate you on your acceptance to UC Irvine and to the School of Physical Sciences. You should be extremely proud of your accomplishments. You’ve already received a message from our New Student Programs office containing important information. (If you haven’t read that message yet, please look for an email from orientation@uci.edu in your inbox or junk mail folder.) There are some things you need to do this summer in order to ensure a smooth transition to college life:
1. Complete the Anteater Zot Start tutorial
You must complete this tutorial BEFORE you can make a reservation for one of the orientation programs, either the Student Parent Orientation Program (SPOP) or the International Student Orientation (ISO). Anteater Zot Start provides information about placement testing, general education requirements, majors, class schedule, class registration, and other special programs for freshmen.
2. Make a reservation for an Orientation Program
• Summer orientation is mandatory for all new freshmen (except CAMP participants who receive orientation during their program). Click on the program links below for more details about the freshman orientation programs:
• Student Parent Orientation Program (SPOP) will be offered on-campus several times in July and August. SPOP is a comprehensive orientation program designed for all new domestic freshmen and new international freshmen who attended high school in the U.S. SPOP attendees will receive academic advising and sign up for fall quarter classes at orientation.
• International Student Orientation (ISO) will be held on-campus from September 19-21. ISO has been specifically designed for new international freshmen who did not attend high school in the U.S. Since ISO is held in September, International students who attend it will receive academic advising and enroll in classes earlier in the summer. You will receive advising from your academic advising office. If you make a reservation for ISO, advising information will be sent to your UCI email account in the middle of July.
For more information about orientation and how to make a reservation, click here for the Freshman Orientation Welcome website.
(International Undergraduate Preparation Program (IUPP) participants – please contact your program advisor for information about your orientation requirements.)
3. Read the New Student Checklist
It covers important information about deadlines for submitting transcripts, exam scores, fee payment information, setting up your UCI email account, signing up for placement testing, financial aid, housing, parking and more.
4. Visit the Message Center at MyAdmission@UCI
Our Admissions Office will send you a message about any missing documents/transcripts or if they’ve placed a hold on your record. The deadline for all documents to be submitted to UC Irvine is July 1, 2017. If you forgot to report any exams, such as AP Exams or IB Exams, then you should send a message thru the Message Center now so that your records can be updated. If your scores are not in the system when you come in for advising, then your class enrollment could be affected, so get those scores submitted now.
If you have any questions, please contact us, your academic counseling office, by email at pssazot@uci.edu. You may also find more information at our website.
Sincerely,
Academic Counselors
School of Physical Sciences
The Registrar’s office has notified us that you are enrolled in an unauthorized repeat of a course this XXXXXXXXXXX, courseXXXXXXXX. According to UCI Academic Senate Policy, students may not repeat courses for which they have earned a grade of ‘C’ or ‘P’ or better.
Please drop the course, otherwise the Registrar will enter the notation "UR", for "Unauthorized Repeat", in place of a grade on your transcript. You will not receive grade points or units.
Transfer Student needs academic advising
According to our records, you were unable to attend one of our transfer student academic advising sessions earlier this summer. Academic advising is an important part of your orientation to UCI. To complete academic advising and to enroll in classes, there are some things that you must do, all of which will be done online and thru email.
Step 1. It is very important that you spend a lot of time looking at the New Student Handbook, and the New Student Checklist which you can find a link to on the bottom of the handbook webpage. Go here for the UCI New Student Handbook, http://www.newstudents.uci.edu.
Step 2. Complete the Transfer Pre-Orientation website, http://orientation.uci.edu/tpow/Welcome.php.
Step 3. Watch all of the video tutorials on our website: http://ps.uci.edu/stuaff/current/videotutorials. These videos will help you understand how to navigate the UCI systems that you will use to enroll in classes.
Step 4. Build your fall quarter schedule and email us a copy. This website will help you put together your class schedule: http://ps.uci.edu/stuaff/content/transfer-students-course-selection. Send your email to pssazot@uci.edu and be sure to include your full name and UCId#. Your schedule must include all classes you plan to take and each section for those classes (lecture, lab, discussion, etc.) and must also include the 5-digit course codes for each class you plan to take. A sample schedule might be: “Chem M3LC lecture#40320 lab#40327; Chem 107 lecture#40720 discussion#40731; Math 2D lecture#44380 discussion #44382.” If you know what you want to do after you graduate, include that in your email, for example “I am considering pharmacy school or dental school.”
Step 5. Wait for your schedule to be reviewed by an academic counselor. If we approve your schedule, then we will remove the hold on your record and email you back telling you when you can enroll in classes, using WebReg.
Step 6. Enroll in classes as soon as possible. Remember to pay your fees by September 15th. If you plan to waive out of the UCI health insurance plan (USHIP) then you must apply for the waiver before the deadline. Info can be found here: http://www.shc.uci.edu/Health_Insurance_Privacy/USHIP-StudentHealthCenter-UCI.aspx.
Step 7. If you wish to meet with one of the academic counselors in person, please contact us sometime in August to set up an appointment. You will not be able to meet with a counselor until all of the above steps have been completed.

Commencement - International Visitors
We received your email requesting our office provide you with a letter for your family to attend Commencement. You will need to write your own invitation letter following the template provided by the UCI International Center. http://www.ic.uci.edu/General/invitingfamily.php Our Physical Sciences Student Affairs Office will provide you with a letter to attach to your invitation letter within one week through email. This letter will confirm your commencement graduation ceremony date.
Clearing Limited Students for Courses
I have cleared you to enroll into ____ for _____.
As a reminder, you should introduce yourself to the Instructor of this course on the first day and let them know you are a visiting student. You should also discuss with them whether you have enough preparation to be successful in their course.
The last day to drop a course is Friday of Week #2 without special approval. Any requests to drop courses after this date are typically denied unless extenuating circumstances exist.

Physical Sciences Student Affairs
Hello,
You've been readmitted for XXXX quarter. A $XX non-refundable readmission application fee has been applied to your Zot Account. Please be sure to pay this fee soon to avoid any late charges. More information about the readmission fee is available here: https://www.reg.uci.edu/enrollment/readmission.html
Please check the Registrar's website for the enrollment calendar: https://www.reg.uci.edu/. This will list the dates of enrollment, when you can view your enrollment window in WebReg, and when the Schedule of Classes will become available. It is your responsibility to enroll into your courses when your enrollment window opens; we will not save seats for you.
(ADD THIS SENTENCE ONLY IF IT IS APPLICABLE) Because you have not enrolled at UCI for more than a year, you must submit a Statement of Legal Residence (SLR). This is done online and should be completed ASAP. Here is the link to the Online SLR for your completion: https://www.reg.uci.edu/stlr/Welcome.do
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
Best,
Physical Sciences Student Affairs
We’ve now transitioned to using a new system to forward emailed information to our listserv of Physical Sciences students. Unfortunately, we can no longer forward any messages with attachments. We can only forward emails that are in text format, with no attachments. This means you will need to link your attachment to a website for students to get additional information, and then include the link in the email text that you send to us to have forwarded.
Please resend the information you want included in text format and we will forward it to our Physical Sciences students.
Best,
Physical Sciences Student Affairs
