As an Earth System Science transfer student, you have many class choices depending on how much math, physics and chemistry you have completed, and what your plans are post-graduation from UC Irvine.

Students who have not completed General Chemistry should enroll in Chemistry in the fall. ESS majors need Chem 1A-B-C-LC-LD. If you have taken one semester of G-Chem already, then you will likely get credit for Chem 1A and 1LD (ask a counselor).

Students who have not completed Physics should enroll in Physics in the fall. Use Assist.org to help you figure out which Physics course(s) you have credit for and then continue where you left off. (Students who have already taken one semester of Physics can usually wait and take physics in the winter, if this class does not fit into your fall schedule.)

All ESS transfer students are ready to take ESS 192, a Careers seminar. This is a 1-unit class that you will very much enjoy. If it's full don't worry, take it when you can, but don't forget to take it because it's an awesome class.

All ESS transfer students are ready to take ESS 45, a New Student seminar. This is a 1-unit class that you will very much enjoy. Sign up right away!.... Have you enrolled yet? Hurry! Description: Weekly meetings led by faculty, current students, and staff, to provide information on the Department of Earth System Science, campus resources, and special programs and opportunities. Designed for students who recently joined the Earth System Science major.

* Students who have not completed the "ESS 1, 3 or 5" requirement (see Assist.org) should take an appropriate course in the fall. Students who have completed G-Chem might opt to take ESS 51 instead. Some students take both ESS courses in the fall.

* Students who have completed G-Chem should enroll in ESS 51, which is Land Interactions.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
The ESS major requires 7 electives from a list. 4 of the 7 must be upper-div ESS courses, see the degree checksheet for the requirements here, http://ps.uci.edu/stuaff/current/degrees. Transfer students don't usually worry about these classes in the first quarter, but it's a good idea to plan ahead for these classes. Taking chemistry courses beyond the required G-Chem, and taking math courses beyond the required Math is one way to satisfy some of these electives.
