Using GAUSSIAN

The Modeling Facility has the Gaussian03 ab initio package under a site license. Users may make arrangements to load Gaussian03 on other Chemistry Department computers.

Gaussian03 is a powerful package with state-of-the art capabilities that now have a graphical user interface, GaussView. You can either use the Spartan interface to submit jobs to Gaussian or Gaussview.

To use Gaussview on model1-6 & 8, type:

>gv

If you already have an input file generated and submit using Gaussian commands on the UNIX window, type:

>g03 <input_filename>& output_filename &

If you have older SGI machines such as Indigo2, you can only run Gaussian98. Gaussian98 will not be available through the Spartan interface.

On SGI Indigo2 machines, type:

>gv2

If you already have an input file generated and submit using Gaussian commands on the UNIX window, type:

>g98 <input_filename>& output_filename &

To get started with Spartan and Gaussian, see the Facility manager.

If you have killed the Gaussian jobs, or Gaussian jobs are not terminated normally, make sure that you remove files in the /scratch/g94 directory.

>cd /scratch/g94

>ls -l ( to see the ownership of the file)

>rm filename (make sure that you only your files).
