ICS 80W Homework 1 Sample Check-off Exercises
Exercise 1: Restore your Netscape environment.
- Copy the Netscape configuration files "MCOM-bookmarks.html",
"Global History", and "Netscape Preferences" from your floppy disk
to the appropriate directory on the Macintosh.
- Start Netscape and verify that you are using your own bookmark list.
Exercise 2: Publish your bookmarks.
- In Netscape, export your bookmarks to a file on your floppy disk
called book.html
- Use Fetch to put a copy of that file into the "public_html" directory
of your account on Clyde.
- Use NCSA Telnet to log in to clyde.ics.uci.edu, and use the command
"publish.www" to make all the files in your Web area readable.
- View your Web area by opening the URL "http://www.ics.uci.edu/~account"
(where "account" is the name of your account on Clyde).
- Add this to your list of bookmarks.
- Select the link "book.html" to view your bookmark list in this new form.
Exercise 3: Preserve your current Netscape environment.
- Use the "Save Options" feature then quit Netscape.
- Copy the Netscape configuration files "MCOM-bookmarks.html",
"Global History", and "Netscape Preferences" to your floppy disk
from the appropriate directory on the Macintosh.
Exercise 4: Electronic mail using Pine
- Send a message to somebody in your address book. Subject: "checkoff"
- Add aisi@ics.uci.edu to your address book.
- What command is used to reply to a mail message?
- What command is used to forward a mail message to someone else?
- Display a list of your current folders.
