Professor Lu's research focuses on the study of geometric analysis, complex algebraic geometry, and spectrum theory. Prior to coming to UCI in 2000, he was Ritt Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Columbia University. Among other awards he has received the Halmos-Ford Award, an Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship and an NSF Career Award. Notably, he was part of the inaugural class of fellows of the American Mathematical Society.
