Jaim Bucay

Senior Systems Engineer
Raytheon-San Diego, CA

Ph.D. Materials Science and Engineering (University of Arizona)

B.S. Physics (University of California, Irvine)

Career Path:

I studied physics at UCI before attending the University of Arizona for graduate school where I studied materials science. I started working at Raytheon in Tucson, Arizona as an intern working on Infrared Detector modelling as well as some computational work on graphene devices. Once I graduated and started working full time, my work has included projects ranging from optical systems engineering to image processing algorithm development for space-based missile defense interceptors. I now work at Raytheon in San Diego where I support primarily Navy programs where I help to design radar tracking algorithms.

Career Experience:
Engineering for Aerospace and Defense
Personal Interests:
I enjoy continuing my studies in physics (mostly through teaching myself various topics), as well as surfing, playing guitar, and enjoying all of the fun activities and restaurants here in San Diego.
Type of Students:
I would most be able to assist students looking for graduate school and career guidance. Also, students interested in continuing pursuits in physics or an engineering discipline.
Number of Students I can Mentor:
Joined Date:
5 years 6 months ago
Ideal Mentoring Relationship:
Ideal mentoring relationship would be mostly remote correspondence through emails or phone conversations.
Additionally, I'd be happy to make the drive up to Irvine to have in-person meetings (preferably over lunch) as often as the student and I feel is appropriate.
