Professor Rowland, founding chair of the UCI Department of Chemistry, was a brilliant chemist whose research predicted devastation for the earth. When reflecting on his findings, Professor Rowland also became one of the first academics to actively lobby for changes in policy and industry. The Montreal Protocol was a direct result of his research and activism.
We invite you to learn more about the world-changing work of Professor F. Sherwood (“Sherry”) Rowland and to consider an investment in future generations of scientists who are building on his extraordinary legacy.
What difference would your tax-deductible support of the F. S. Rowland Endowed Chair & Fellowship Fund make?
- Support of young scientists. There are so many worthy causes related to environmental awareness and activism today. And yet the underlying critical role of research and science in identifying current and future environmental issues can be lost in this barrage of noble causes. Without young scientists building on the body of knowledge created by Professor Rowland and others, our world won’t have the research data to determine the best courses of action for our future.
- Personal gratification. Individuals who recognize the role of science in identifying and solving the world’s problems find great personal satisfaction in becoming partners in the support of intellectual curiosity and the discipline of academic examination.
- Gifts of $1M or more will be acknowledged publicly, with an ongoing honorary designation or naming opportunity included in all public materials referencing the endowed chair.
