UCI's Math Department is happy to announce the next MATH LUNCH SEMINAR for undergraduates.

On Thursday, November 13 at noon in NS2 1201, Prof. Eggers will talk about "The Compensating Polar Planimeter".

Take a break from classes, and join fellow undergraduates for this interesting talk. Pizza will be served!

P.S. Are you curious to find out what a compensating polar planimeter is? Come and find out at the seminar. There will be some actual planimeters for you to see (and check how they work).

Looking for an internship program?

This program is a joint effort of the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI) America International Group, the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), and was developed to introduce chemistry and chemical engineering students to careers in the chemical industry.

Exceptional sophomores and juniors with a GPA of at least 3.5 and who are majoring in chemistry or chemical engineering are encouraged to apply.

Program details:

-Over thirty scholars will be chosen for internship positions in the summer of 2015.
-SCI Scholars will receive $6,000-$10,000+ for a ten-week internship.
-Students will be awarded a certificate and an additional $1,000, which can be used for any purpose, such as participation at an ACS or AIChE meeting.
-Scholars nominate a high school chemistry teacher for recognition. ---Teachers will be awarded a certificate from SCI and $1,000, which can be used for professional development or classroom materials.
-Applications are due December 19, 2014.

As a reminder, the deadline to add a course, drop a course, or change the grade option for a course without the dean’s approval is approaching. The deadline to make these changes using WebReg is this Friday, October 17th by 5:00pm. Any changes after this deadline will require an enrollment exception – only requests with extenuating circumstances will be approved after this date.

As a reminder:
• You shouldn’t drop courses required for your major.
• All major required courses must be taken for a letter grade.
• You must be at 12 units or above to be a full-time student.

If you have questions about this, please stop into our Student Affairs Office in 134 Rowland Hall to discuss.
