Trusting the Physical Sciences Root CA in Safari [back]
Step 1.
Option-Click here and click "Save Linked File to the Desktop" to download the Physical Sciences Root CA Certificate to your computer.
Step 2.
Close your web browser and find your Desktop. Double-click on your hard disk.
Step 3.
Then double-click on Applications.
Step 4.
Now double-click on Utilities.
Step 5.
A program called Keychain Access should be present here. Double-click on it to open it.
Step 6.
If you see a Keychains box in the upper-left of the Keychain Access window, proceed to Step 8.
Step 7.
If you don't see a Keychains box in the upper-left of the Keychain Access window, press the "Show Keychains" button in the lower left of the window.
Step 8.
Click on X509Anchors in the Keychains box in the upper-left. Click the large padlock in the upper-left to unlock it. If you see the list of keychains and X509Anchors is not present, then you are using an older OS X than 10.4 and need to go to the File menu, and select Add Keychain. Browse through your hard disk and select System -> Library -> Keychains -> X509Anchors and click Open. Now you should be able to click on X509Anchors in the main Keychain Access window and unlocked as descriped at the beginning of this step.
Step 9.
Enter your password for OS X or hit OK if you have no password.
Step 10.
The X509Anchors keychain should now be unlocked. Click on the File menu at the top of the screen and choose Import.
Step 11.
Click on Desktop in the Import dialogue if it is not already showing the desktop. Now click on the psrootca.cer file that you saved to your desktop in Step 1. In the Keychain dropdown menu, make sure X509Anchors is selected. Now click Open.
Step 12.
Now if you scroll down in the X509Anchors certificate list you should find one that says "Physical Sciences Root Certificate". Double-click on it. In the window that pops up, scroll to the bottom, and expand the Trust Settings area. Change "When using this certificate" so it says "Always Trust". Close this Window.
Step 13.
Click the large padlock in the upper-left of the screen to re-lock the X509Anchors keychain and then close the Keychain Access program.
Step 14.
If you open Keychain access again and look under X509Anchors you will see that the "Physical Sciences Root Certificate" is now trusted. However, before it works in your browser you will need to reboot your computer.
