Postdoc Fellowships

Science, Engineering, Education for Sustainability

Postdoctoral fellowship applications to support research leading to environmental, energy, and societal sustainability while creating the necessary workforce to address these challenges. The program emphasizes investigations that cross traditional disciplinary boundaries and address issues of sustainability through a systems approach, building bridges between academic inquiry, economic growth, and societal needs. Fellows also must develop a research partnership that would broaden the impact and/or scope of the proposed activities.

Agency:
NSF
Deadline:
December 5, 2012
Funds:
$6 million will be available for 12 to 20 awards providing two to three years of support over four years.

Computer Science/Engineering Postdoctoral Fellowship

IBM Corporation is inviting applications for the Josef Raviv Memorial Postdoctoral Fellowship, which supports a recent Ph.D. who shows exceptional promise for a research career in computer science or computer engineering. Depending on proposed collaborations, the Fellow will spend most of his/her time at one of IBM's worldwide research laboratories. The Fellow will be free to follow his or her own research interests, but is expected to work closely with other IBM researchers.

Agency:
IBM
Deadline:
January 6, 2013
Funds:
One fellowship of up to $100,000.

Postdoctoral Environmental Sciences Fellowships

The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University is inviting applications for postdoctoral fellowships in the earth, environmental and ocean sciences. Supported research addresses the dynamics of earth's chemical, physical and biological systems, from its inner core to upper atmosphere, as well as its interactions with humans. Successful candidates have a record of scientific excellence and a clearly expressed plan to investigate problems at the forefront of earth science.

Agency:
Columbia Univ.
Deadline:
December 21, 2012
Funds:
The stipend is $58,000 annually, plus a $5,000 research allowance, for 21 months.
