Funding sources that have contributed to support future mathematics and science teachers at UCI:
The UCI Department of Mathematics received a $2.5 million gift from the California Community Foundation to establish the "UCI Excellence in Teaching Chair in Mathematics," a faculty position dedicated to helping create the next generation of highly-qualified math and science teachers (2005).
UCI received a $100,000 gift from the Samueli Foundation to promote the UCI California Teach program (2005).
UCI received a four-year, $500,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to offer scholarships to aspiring math and science teachers (2004). These are the UCI Noyce STEM Teaching Scholarships.
UCI in collaboration with three regional school districts received a five-year, $14.2 million math-science partnership grant (the FOCUS! project) from the National Science Foundation to foster the professional development of future and practicing math and science teachers (2002). The partner districts are Compton USD, Newport Mesa USD, and Santa Ana USD.
