Physical Sciences 5/Bio Sci 14 "Cal Teach 1" - Introduction to Science and Mathematics Teaching:
For students interested in becoming middle or high school teachers of mathematics or science. Meets five times for students to gain an understanding of effective, research-based teaching strategies. Includes an opportunity to experience math and science teaching in a grade K-5 classroom. This course includes a commitment of 20 total hours of fieldwork in a local school during the quarter. Students must be available to complete the fieldwork during school hours, which are typically between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m, Monday through Friday. Pass/No Pass or letter grade.

Physical Sciences 105/Bio Sci 101 "Cal Teach 2" - Middle School Science and Mathematics Teaching:
For students interested in becoming middle or high school teachers of mathematics or science. Meets five times for students to gain an understanding of effective, research-based teaching strategies. Includes an opportunity to experience math and science teaching in a grade 6-8 classroom. This course includes a commitment of 25 total hours of fieldwork in a local school during the quarter. Students must be available to complete the fieldwork during school hours, which are typically between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m, Monday through Friday. Prerequisite: Physical Sciences 5 or Bio Sci 14. Pass/No Pass or letter grade.

Physical Sciences 106/Bio Sci 102 "Cal Teach 3 " - High School Science and Mathematics Teaching:
Capstone of a series of three seminars for students interested in becoming secondary math or science teachers. Meets 6 times for students to understand effective, research-based teaching strategies. Includes an opportunity to experience teaching in a High School. This course includes a commitment of 20 total hours of fieldwork in a local school during the quarter. Students must be available to complete the fieldwork during school hours, which are typically between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m, Monday through Friday. Prerequisite: Physical Sciences 5/Bio Sci 14 and Physical Sciences 105/Bio Sci 101. Pass/No Pass or letter grade.

By completing the California Teach seminars, students can explore teaching as a career option, learn about and see examples of best practices in teaching math and science, and get hands-on experience working with K-12 students in math and science classrooms. Upon completion of seminar requirements, students are eligible to earn a scholarship for additional fieldwork hours.
